Solid state lidar demonstration

FIMA organised together with Tampere University Mobile Lab and AI-Hub a demonstration to introduce the latest lidar technology. Specialists from 16 FIMA member organisations followed the presentation and live demo in 3 sessions. Company XenomatiX provided their solid state lidar into demo. The solid-state lidar is built on a silicon chip, having no moving parts. This makes the sensor more robust compared lidars with rotating mirrors. Other 3D lidars in the demo represented types which are commonly in use in heavy vehicles and work machines.

Solid state lidar technology is interesting and offers lot of advances. Based on dicussions, the break-through still needs high production volumes which are only posible in the automotive industry.
