The main focus of the study is at battery technologies presently suitable for motive power (traction) applications, and their development in the short-term (about 5 – 10 years). Other functions of the batteries, such as utilising breaking energy of vehicles, lifts, etc. or backup power are also handled. Battery characteristics  and comparison of battery technologies were considered with the utilisation of the work machines in mind. Report seeks main drivers for future development and scans through new battery technologies that may have a future in mobile machines. Cost development and competitiveness of new battery technologies as well as safety of new battery technologies are part of this study.
