Battery Technology Watch

BTW

Project code. BTW
Schedule: 2022 - 2024
Status: Active

Batteries play a key role in the electrification of transport and mobile work machinery. Currently, Li-ion batteries are the dominant battery technology, but there are a wide variety of Li-ion batteries available and other emerging battery technologies are under development. Different applications place different requirements on batteries, which is why reliable knowledge on the performance of the battery is valuable when selecting the battery technology.

Battery Technology Watch (BTW) project is to produce aggregated information on the development of battery technologies for participating companies as a pre-commercial joint research activity. This project builds on the battery technology expertise and battery testing facilities developed at VTT.

BTW project is to collect and analyse up-to-date information on the performance of existing battery technologies, to provide an outlook on emerging battery technologies and to carry out performance characterization laboratory tests (”fingerprint tests”) for a large number of cells. All the collected and tested battery data will be available for the project partners in a new Battery Database.
